The Challenge

ENGIE is developing a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) near the Vilvoorde Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) plant in Belgium to enhance grid flexibility and support the energy transition.

The Solution

Tractebel has been involved as Owner’s Engineer from the start of the project. After completing the basic design in 2024, our team is now supervising the construction phase, ensuring technical quality and alignment with project goals.

The Impact

The BESS will strengthen grid resilience and stability by helping manage fluctuations, support renewable integration, and ensure reliable electricity delivery—playing a key role in Belgium’s low-carbon energy future.
