The Challenge
Support a mountain territory in anticipating water resource availability and competing uses under climate change.
The Solution
An essential boundary condition for the design services related to the capacity expansion is the requirement to maintain continuous flood-protection operation throughout all construction phases. The existing flood-retention volume must remain fully available during the entire construction period. For this reason, the replacement construction of the control structure (gated spillway) is planned in two stages. By maintaining two spillway bays in operation at all times, the flood-retention function and controlled releases to the downstream channel can be ensured.
The Impact
Actionable basis for resilient municipal planning and sustainable tourism strategy in Maurienne.
