The Challenge

UCB’s R10 project represents a strategic expansion of its research and development capabilities within its main Belgian campus. The goal was to create a cutting-edge facility offering 8,500 m² of laboratory and office space to accommodate scientists in an inspiring and high-performance environment. The challenge was to design a state-of-the-art pharmaceutical building that meets the highest standards of functionality, flexibility, and sustainability.

The Solution

Tractebel responded by designing an innovative, four-level facility that integrates advanced research laboratories with modern office spaces. Strategically located on the site of a previous structure, the building maximizes spatial efficiency while fostering collaboration and scientific excellence. Tractebel led the engineering design across all disciplines, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and environmental quality throughout the project lifecycle.

The Impact

Committed to sustainability, Tractebel targeted a BREEAM Excellent certification for the R10 building. The design emphasizes energy efficiency, abundant natural light, and a healthy indoor climate, creating a conducive and inspiring setting for scientific innovation.
